Welcome to the University of St Andrews Basketball Club

The last four years have seen unprecedented growth for the University of St Andrews Basketball Club. The teams compete at some of the highest level of Scottish University Basketball and each year are building a stronger and more competitive programme. The Club also offers recreational sessions for those wanting to play at a lower level. The programme is fast becoming one of the best in the country.

The Basketball Club is made up of one competitive Women’s Team, two competitive Men’s Teams and two Development Club Teams. The Women’s Basketball Team is one of the University’s high performance teams, having seen much progress and achievement in recent years and now competing in BUCS Scottish Division 1 having won Division 2 two in season 2012-2013. The Team came 2nd in the league in their debut season and finished first in the 2014-2015 season, undefeated at the top of the league, narrowly missing out on promotion to the British Premier League. The Women’s Team also competes in the British Trophy, which comprises of Division 1 teams from across the UK, and were promoted to the Scottish National League this season and have had an impressive first season. The Women’s programme is run by Head Coach Callum Knox.

The Men’s Basketball Team have undergone a large degree of restructuring in the last two years and is now run as a team playing in both the BUCS (Division 2) and the local Tayside and Fife League. Primary focus is on progressing in the BUCS league, but playing in the local Tayside and Fife league provides an opportunity for local talent and University staff to play and assist in the further development of the all-student team that competes in the BUCS league. The Men's Team has added a 2nd Team to their roster for the 2015-2016 season - the main purpose of this team is development, coaching players who may have less experience or not played for a while so that they can progress into the first team next year.

We currently have one full size basketball court located in the newly developed Main Sports Hall of the Sports Centre as well as access to a high level performance suite for strength and conditioning training. As part of the Sports Centre Redevelopment & Extension this new sports hall will provide a second state of the art basketball courts with hardwood floors and fibreglass backboards with seating for 400 spectators once the development process is completed. This will be hugely beneficial for the University teams and provide a great opportunity to further increase the reach of the club.
